Abstract:

Dicamba, paraquat, picloram, clopyralid, linuron are herbicides commonly used for crop protection in agriculture. The aim of this study is to evaluate the toxicity effects of the herbicides used on Caenorhabditis elegans survival, fertilization and physical height, which are similar to the human genome. In the study, C. elegans was exposed to 5 different concentrations of each herbicide (62.5 µM, 125 µM, 250 µM, 500 µM, 1000 µM) and the changes shown by the herbicides were determined. For the survival analysis part of the study, Log Rank (Mantel-Cox), Breslow (Generalized Wilcoxon), Tarone Ware tests were performed using Kaplan-Meier Survival Analysis statistical method. In addition, in the analysis of all data obtained in egg productivity and physical growth studies, the differences between herbicide dose groups were determined by using Anova and Post-Hoc Test. When the results are evaluated; While survival (life expectancy) and heights (physical growth) were more affected by paraquat, dicamba, linuron, picloram, clopyralid herbicides, respectively, fertility (egg count and egg production) was more affected by paraquat, linuron, dicamba, picloram, clopyralid. As a result, it was determined that increasing the dose amounts of herbicides caused many toxic reactions on C. elegans, affecting survival, egg production and height.
