Abstract:

The aim of this study is to contribute to develop new strategies on bringing students in be aware of modesty that constitutes one of the important components of religion and moral issues at the lesson of religious culture and moral knowledge. This study includes the Lesson of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge at elementary schools. In our study, a general literature study on the sense of modesty and its education was applied as a method and information was also supported via a questionnaire. After the introduction chapter, basic concepts that constitute the basis of the study were determined and dealt with according to conceptual framework at the first chapter. Before dealing with the sense of modesty – which also means "embarrassment" – a wide search was done about the embarrassment. The embarrassment is two sided one of them enriches the personality while the other weakens it. When we examined the Islamic literature, it was seen that the principle of everything is "for the sake of Allah" and so emotions are disciplined according to this notion. The way and limit of modesty (embarrassment), which Rasul of Allah advises, are charity and faith. According to this, a person saves his own honor and respects others' honor thanks to this emotion. At the second chapter, the education of modesty was investigated. The modesty could become possible through a national and spiritual focused education that also requires an approach which takes emotions under control of mind but not leaving the mind without emotions. Bringing up people who have social ethics requires the proper education of embarrassment. The proper education of modesty could be possible, when a child, a good educator, who knows and recognize the differences and applies the right method after choosing it, a good education chamber in a good education medium are altogether available. The SPSS technique was used for analyzing the search data at the third chapter.
