Gıda katkı maddelerinin (benzoik asit, sodyum nitrat, allura red, tartrazin, sunset yellow) Caenorhabditis elegans üzerindeki etkilerinin belirlenmesi

Abstract:

The food additives, which are widely used in the food sector presently, are targeted at gaining some additional properties to foods, and although initially appearing to be harmless, it has been found that these substances may accumulate in the body of the humans over time, and that exposure to these additives above certain doses may adversely affect the quality of life and cause diseases, such as cancer or may even result in death of the individual. Therefore, studies can reveal that the genotoxic potential of food additives and their negative effects on human health are very vital in ensuring food safety. Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) is an important model organism, which is used frequently in the determination of effects and toxic doses caused by substances that are toxic or toxic to humans. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of different doses benzoic acid, sodium nitrate, allura red, tartrazine and sunset yellow which are food substances that cause effects on lifespan, fertility and physical growth in C. elegans, a model organism. In this study, 5 different doses (0,006 g, 0,01 g, 0,02 g, 0,05 g, 0,1 g /10 mL) of each additive were added to C. elegans culture media and then the lifespan, fertility and physical growth changes of C. elegans exposed to these doses of additives were examined. Findings were assessed by comparing them to control groups. At the end of the study, it was observed that all application doses except for 0,006 g/10 mL dose of benzoic acid, sodium nitrate, allura red, tartrazine and sunset yellow shortened the lifespan with increasing dose of all application doses and it was also determined that all application groups negatively affect fertility with the increase in dose. Also, it was found that all doses of benzoic acid and sodium nitrate, all doses of tartrazine doses except 0,006 g/10 mL dose, 0,02 g, 0,05 g and 0,1 g/10 mL doses of sunset yellow were determined to cause growth retardation, and 0,1 g/10 mL dose of allura red was found to increase physical growth.
