Abstract:This dissertation examines the role of religious education in the adaptation process of immigrants, emphasizing that the phenomenon of migration is a subject of various disciplines. In the globalizing world, migration has become an important source of social problems as natural population growth limits settlements. In recent years, Turkey, a country that has been a major emigration giver, has become an immigrant-receiving country. This study focuses on the religious education needs of Syrian immigrants in Turkey and the importance of religious education in the adaptation process. The fact that the majority of Syrian immigrants are Muslim, the high number of Syrian students in cities such as Gaziantep, and the opportunities for non-formal religious education show that religious education has an important role in the integration of Syrian immigrants. The research started with a literature review on migration and religious education and a research process involving 135 interviews was implemented. Using a qualitative research design, the findings were subjected to content analysis. This research was chosen because of its advantages arising from the rich methodological features of qualitative research. The results show that religious education plays an important role in the socio-cultural integration of migrants. The dissemination of formal and non-formal religious education through various means is an important factor in the integration process of immigrants. This thesis study emphasizes the importance of religious education in the integration process of immigrants and reveals that religious education policies should be developed to better respond to the needs of immigrants.
