Abstract:The aim of this in-vitro study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Reciproc system used with different kinematics in the removal of root canal filling material in oval-shaped canals. In the study, 80 human mandibular incisor teeth with a single oval-shaped root canal were used. The Reciproc R25 file was used to clean and shape the root canals of 80 teeth used in the study. The root canal filling of the prepared teeth was made using the Elements Free Obturation System's downpack and backfill units. The teeth whose root canal filling was performed were divided into two groups (300 rpm or 500 rpm) according to the speed value to be applied and four different subgroups (150° CCW-30° CW, 210° CCW-30° CW, 360° CCW-30° CW, Continuous rotation) according to the kinematics used in the preparation, and a total of eight groups were formed. The root canal filling materials of the teeth in the groups were removed using the R25 file by adjusting the memory of the E-Connect S motor according to the speed value and kinematics determined for each group. Apical enlargement was then performed with the R40 file. The total time for retreatment was recorded in each group. Time elapsed during instrument change and irrigation were not included in the retreatment times. In the study, images were obtained under a stereomicroscope to evaluate the root canal filling material that could not be removed after retreatment. The images obtained were transferred to the computer, and each root canal was divided into three parts as the coronal, middle, and apical regions on the images in ImageJ software, and the remaining filling material was measured. The percentage of the filling material remaining in the root canal walls was calculated as the coronal, middle, and apical regions. At the same time, the area of the entire root canal and the area of all residual root canal filling material were calculated, and the amount of the residual root canal filling material in the entire root canal was calculated as a percentage. The data were analyzed statistically by the Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, Friedman F test, and the margin of error was accepted as 0.05. When the kinematics applied according to the findings were ignored and the retreatment processes performed at 300 rpm and 500 rpm were compared, the remaining filling material in the middle third and in total was statistically significantly higher at 500 rpm than at 300 rpm. In the 500 rpm group in which retreatment processes were performed with 150° CCW-30° CW kinematics, the remaining filling material in the middle third was significantly higher than the 300 rpm group. In the retreatment process performed at 500 rpm and with 150° CCW-30° CW kinematics, the highest median values of the remaining filling material were determined in the middle third>apical third>coronal third, respectively, and a statistically significant difference was found between the regions. Upon examining the total time in which the root canals were completely cleaned in the retreatment process at 300 rpm and 500 rpm without any kinematic distinction, it was observed that the retreatment process performed at 300 rpm took significantly longer. When the total time in which the root canals were completely cleaned in the continuous rotation groups with 300 and 500 rpm settings was examined, it was observed that the retreatment process performed at 300 rpm took significantly longer.
