Due to the toxic effect of the
hexavalent chromium used in the chrome plating bath, researchers have directed
the research of new coatings. In this study, studies were carried out for the electrodeposition
of Co-W coatings in citrate-borate bath to determine the optimum process conditions.
In these studies, tungsten content, microhardness, and corrosion resistance
measurements of the coatings were made. The central composite design method was
used in the optimization studies.
Optimum conditions of coatings with
central composite design were determined as: 60g/L CoSO4, 0.01Mol Na2WO4,
0.2M Trisodium Citrate, 40g/L H3BO3, current density
6.4A/dm2, pH:6. In the optimum experimental conditions, the
microhardness value was measured as 547 Hv0.5. The TMAB additive has positive
effects on the corrosion and microhardness of the coating. The maximum hardness
was achived in the experiment by adding 5g/L TMAB additive and it was measured
as 1360 Hv0.5. The maximum corrosion resistant coating was the experiment that
was used 1g/L TMAB as additive, the corrosion current value used to determine
the corrosion resistance was measured as 5.20µA.
