Özet

The use of bee pollen, which is a natural honey-bee product, as a healthy nutritional supplement by

consumers has become very common nowadays [1-3]. The chemical composition of bee products varies greatly

according to the geographical structure of the area where they are collected, climatic conditions and floral

richness. The broad-spectrum biological activity values of bee products can also vary according to the

differences in their content. In this case, it means that the therapeutic activities of bee products obtained from

different regions may vary. In short, the chemical composition of bee products will include the chemical

components of the floral structure in the region where they are obtained. Studies in the literature have shown

that there are significant differences between total phenolic contents and antioxidant activities of bee pollen

from different botanical origins and different regions [4-5]. In this study, it was aimed to extract bee pollen

samples collected from different regions of Sivas province by using 2 different solvents and to compare their

in vitro cytotoxic activities using the MCF-7 (Human breast cancer) cell line. In general, it will be possible to

compare the effectiveness of Sivas samples with the studies in the literature. Extraction of pollen samples

obtained from Yıldızeli, Zara and center districts of Sivas province in the 2020 harvest period was carried out

using ethyl alcohol and water solvents. The biological activities of the isolates were investigated in vitro on the

MCF-7 cell line using the MTT cell proliferation kit. Using the MTT results, IC50 values were calculated in

the Graphpad analysis program. It was observed that pollen isolates purified using 2 different solvents showed

good cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 cell line. It was determined that ethyl alcohol isolates of pollen samples

showed IC50 values in the range of 5.0-68.8 μg/mL and water isolates 45.5-86.5 μg/mL, and ethyl alcohol

isolates of pollen samples generally showed higher activity than water isolates. It is thought that the pollen

samples collected from various localities in the province of Sivas and extracted with ethyl alcohol and water

under laboratory conditions are promising in the preparation of new and effective pharmacognostic

supplements.
