S.pneumoniae sufllar› %9 oran›nda multipl dirence (≥ 2 antibiyoti¤e direnç) sahipti.

The resistance rate of Streptococcus pneumoniae strains to some antibiotics in our region. 35 Streptococcus pneumoniae strains isolated from patients who had acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive lung disease were included in this study. The resistance to penicillin, tetracycline, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, ceftriaxone, and cefotaxime were determined by using disk diffusion and agar dilution methods. These methods were performed on Mueller-Hinton agar with 5% sheep blood according to NCCLS criteria. The resistance rate of S.pneumoniae to oxacillin was 23% by using disk diffusion method, whereas no high-level resistance to penicillin was determined by agar dilution method. The lowlevel resistance rate was 14%. The resistance rate of S.pneumoniae strains determined by disk diffusion method to tetracycline, chloramphenicol, and erythromycin was 28, 14, and 17%, respectively. However, there was no resistance to ceftriaxone and cefotaxime. Although it was not observed any resistance to tetracycline, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, ceftriaxone and cefotaxime by agar dilution method, we found 9% and 14% of isolates as moderately susceptible to tetracycline and chloramphenicol, respectively. Of 35 strains, three (9%) had multiple resistance (i.e, resistant to ≥ 2 agents).
