Özet

Genetic characterization of populations and thereby determination of diversity are critically important for development of management programs for genetic resources and determination of population migrations in the history. The aim of this study was to determine genetic characterization of cat breeds reared in Turkey using microsatellite DNA markers. Ninety six of animals of cat populations, Turkish Van, Turkish Angora, Turkish Tekir, Siamese and Persian were genetically characterized by using 10 microsatellite loci including FCA069, FCA075, FCA105, FCA149, FCA220, FCA229, FCA240, FCA310, FCA441 and FCA678. The amplified Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) products were separated by capillary electrophoresis using a CEQ-8000 Beckman Coulter Genetic Analysis System and allele genotypes were determined. A total of 274 different alleles were observed ranging from 3.7 (Siamese) to 8.3 (Turkish Van). The observed heterozygosity (Ho) and expected heterozygosity (He) were ranged from 1.0000 to 0.1667 and from 0.8939 to 0.1667, respectively. Factorial Correspondence Analysis (FCA) suggested the fact that genetic relationships of present-day Turkish cat breeds are consistent with their historical origins. Lower genetic diversities were observed in these breed. Siamese and Persian cats were separated in a group from the other breeds raised in Turkey. It was observed that Tekir population was totally separated but located close to the Turkish Angora and Turkish Van populations.
