Honey bee and apiculture within the context of One Health: an evaluation with Kazakhstan example

Özet
Human health, animal health, and environmental health cannot be considered independently of another. In this context, the degradation of ecosystems has been associated with a reduction in plant diversity, which in turn negatively affects bee health. The deterioration of bee health reduces the quality of bee products obtained from hives, and this chain of reactions ultimately has serious impacts on human health. Kazakhstan, with its vast surface area and diverse soil structures, holds great importance for beekeeping. It hosts a rich flora and a variety of endemic plant species. The unique phenolic and flavonoid compound profiles found in these plants constitute the primary source of their health-promoting effects and biological activities. Agricultural practices and pesticide applications on plants contribute to the accumulation of pesticides and heavy metals in nature, leading to a loss of natural composition in plant-derived products. Additionally, climate change has significant effects on biodiversity. Deterioration and contamination in plants, which are the sole food source for bees, disrupt bee nutrition; in addition, bees may suffer from pesticide-induced poisoning and even death. A clean environment may facilitate high-quality nectar and pollen derived from plants, facilitating the transfer of rich bioactive compounds into bee products. It should always be remembered that healthy bees produce high-quality honey, propolis, royal jelly, and bee bread. The biomedical importance of bee products arises from the presence of numerous bioactive compounds such as chrysin, CAPE, and galangin. Preliminary in silico analyses have suggested that certain bioactive components in bee products may interact with neurological targets relevant to stress modulation, although such computational predictions require experimental confirmation and are not yet substantiated for honey bee products specifically. In conclusion, this holistic model supports the idea that environmental quality directly affects bee health, shaping the biochemical richness and potential therapeutic value of bee products. This integrative perspective highlights the importance of maintaining ecological balance not only for biodiversity but also for the development of natural products that may contribute to mental health and disease prevention. In public health practices, the use of natural products as preventive and supportive agents, along with the growing potential of apitherapy approaches, is increasingly noteworthy.
