In this study, poly (NIPAM/ acrylamide/maleic acid)-sepiolite (PNAMS) and poly (NIPAM/acrylamide/maleic acid) (PNAM) polymers were synthesized for using in the release of clarithromycin drug. PNAMS composite hydrogel was prepared by a radical addition reaction occurred in aqueous media formed by NIPAM, acrylamide and maleic acid monomers, in the presence of sepiolite. The characterization of the polymer was performed by FTIR and its surface properties were examined via SEM analysis. At the same time, swelling and drug adsorption properties of the polymers were analyzed. It has been observed that the entire drug, which was added to the solution with 1 g of polymer, was absorbed in around 3.5 h. This measurement showed that the adsorption of this polymer is quite high compared to many polymers in the literature. Moreover, PNAMS showed 450% swelling at 35-40 degrees C, which is the closest temperature to human body. In the light of these results, it has been concluded that this new polymer is very suitable for the release of clarithromycin.
