Genel anlamda dokümantasyon, ileriye dönük bir yatırım veya faaliyettir. Sanatsal dökümantasyon ise, sanat objesini kendi döneminin ilerisinde bir döneme ulaŞtıran ölümsüzleŞtirme aracıdır. Üretildiği dönemin dokusu ve dokusundaki tüm bilgileri, verileri taŞıyan sanatsal dökümantasyon zamana ve akımlara göre farklı özellikler sergiler. Yazı bulunmadan önce mağara duvarlarına, taŞ yüzeylere yapılan kuralsız, estetik kaygısız, disiplinsiz bir dizi figürün çizildiği günden bugüne sanatsal dökümanterler farklı aŞamalardan geçerek değiŞik formlara bürünmüŞtür. 20. Yüzyılda ise sanat eseri dekoratif bir öğe olma kaygısından arındırılmıŞ ve eser mekân arasında bütünleŞik içsel bir sunuŞ Şeklini almıŞtır. Aynı yüzyılda postmodern sanat anlayıŞı ile sanat mekânının transformasyonu, canlı performanslar, müze yapısındaki fiziki değiŞimler, hazır nesnenin sanat üretimi olarak sergilerde yerini alması sanatsal dökümantasyonun yeniden tanımlanmasını, sorgulanmasının yolunu açmıŞ ve sanatsal dökümantasyon belgelerinin birer sanat pratiği olarak değerlendirilmesi anlayıŞını güçlendirmiŞtir. Bu bağlamda, literatür bilgisine dayalı yapılan bu çalıŞmanın amacı, sanat dokümantasyonunun önemine, geçmiŞ ve bir sanat pratiği olma özelliğine dikkat çekmektir.
Generally speaking, documentation is a forward-looking investment or activity. Artistic documentation, on the other hand, is a tool of immortalization that brings the art object to a period beyond its own time. The texture and the texture of the period in which it was produced, the artistic documentation that carries all the information and data, exhibits different characteristics according to time and trends. Since the day when a series of irregular, aesthetically unconcerned, undisciplined figures were drawn on cave walls and stone surfaces before writing was found, artistic documents have passed through different stages and assumed different forms. In the 20th century, the work of art was freed from the concern of being a decorative element and the work took the form of an integrated interior presentation between the space. In the same century, the transformation of the art space with the postmodern understanding of art, live performances, physical changes in the museum structure, the fact that the ready-made object took its place in the exhibitions as art production led to the redefinition and questioning of artistic documentation and strengthened the understanding of evaluating artistic documentation documents as an art practice. In this context, the aim of this study, which is based on literature knowledge, is to draw attention to the importance of art documentation, the connection it establishes between the past and the present, and its feature as an art practice.
