PERIPHERAL OSSEOUS DYSPLASIA: A CASE REPORT OF AN INCIDENTAL FINDING DURING ROUTINE EXAMINATION Çağrı Kaplan, Baran Coşkun Sivas Cumhuriyet University , Faculty of Dentistry , Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Sivas Aim: Peripheral osseous dysplasia (POD) is a rare fibro-osseous lesion that is mostly asymptomatic and incidentally discovered. This study presents a case of POD identified during routine examination and successfully treated. Case Presentation: A 55-year-old systemically healthy female patient presented to our clinic with a radiolucent lesion containing a central calcified focus in the right posterior mandible, detected during routine radiographic examination. The patient had no complaints such as pain or swelling. Based on clinical and radiographic findings, a provisional diagnosis of peripheral osseous dysplasia was made. The lesion was surgically enucleated in total, and histopathological evaluation confirmed the diagnosis. No recurrence was observed during the 6-month follow-up. Result: POD is most frequently seen in middle-aged women and is often diagnosed incidentally due to its asymptomatic nature. Surgical excision usually results in good prognosis with low recurrence risk. Accurate radiological and histopathological assessment is essential for differentiation from other lesions with similar appearance.Careful evaluation of asymptomatic bone lesions during routine dental examinations is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment.
