Özet

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between hemodialysis patients' attitudes towards diet therapy and their perceived social support. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and analytical study was conducted with 180 patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment at hospitals in a single province, who met the inclusion criteria. The study data were collected using the Patient Identification Form, Hemodialysis Patients' Attitudes Towards Diet Therapy Scale and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, ANOVA test, and Pearson correlation analysis were used in the analysis of data. Results: The mean total score of the Attitude Toward Diet Therapy Scale was 43.94±11.67 while the mean total score of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support was 48.03±17.67. Female patients, those aged 60 and above, and illiterate individuals had significantly lower scores on the Attitude Toward Diet Therapy Scale. A strong, statistically significant positive correlation was found between attitudes towards diet therapy and perceived social support (r = 0.771, p < 0.001), as well as across all sub-dimensions (r = 0.768, 0.755, 0.746; p < 0.001). Conclusion: The study concluded that hemodialysis patients generally exhibited moderate attitudes toward diet therapy and that a strong positive relationship exists between these attitudes and their perceived levels of social support. Strengthening patients' social support systems may promote more favorable attitudes toward diet therapy, which is a key component of effective disease management.
