Sanat “biçim verme isteği” olarak sanat eserinde biçim ve içerik arasındaki birlik estetiği oluşturur. Bu durum, sayısız öğeler arasında bir dengeyi gözetmeyi gerektirir ki, bu türden bir denge en yalın biçimde tasarım sürecinde gözlemlenir. Bundan dolayı sanat eserinin temelinde tasarım olgusu vardır. Sanat gibi tasarım da yaratıcı düşünmeyi gerektiren bir faaliyettir aynı zamanda üründe işe yararlılık ve icat etme gibi kimi özellikler açısından öne çıkan bir yapı barındırır. Bu nedenle sanat, tarihsel gelişim sürecinde sanatsal sorunlara zaman zaman tasarım alanından ödünç çözümler almıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı; tarihsel süreçte tasarımdan beslenen sanat kavramına geniş bir perspektiften bakarak, sanat kavramının oluşumunda tasarımın rolünü belirlemektir. Araştırma sorusu şöyledir: “Tarihsel gelişim sürecinde sanat kavramının oluşumunda tasarımın rolü nedir?” Bu araştırma, nitel yöntemde ve betimsel tarama tekniğinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. İlgili alanyazın sanat ve tasarım anahtar kelimeleriyle taranarak, araştırma sorusuyla doğrudan ilişkili belgeler doküman analiz tekniğiyle incelenmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre, insanlık tarihinin ilk zamanlarından başlayarak Antik Roma dönemine kadar süregelen tasarım olgusunun işe yararlılık noktasında yeniyi ortaya çıkaran bir süreç olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. Sanatın tasarım ile benzer bir gelişim sürecine sahip olarak, sanat eserinin aynı zamanda bir tasarım ürünü olduğu göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, uygarlık tarihinin başlangıcı olan Paleolitik dönemdeki ilk tasarım fikrinin ortaya çıkışıyla birlikte sanatın tarihinin de başladığı söylenebilir. Bu durum, tarihsel süreçte Paleolitik dönemden Antik Roma’ya kadar geçen dönemde tasarımın sanata etkisini göstermesi bakımından kayda değerdir. Bu tarihsel süreç incelendiğinde, bir toplumda tasarım kültürü oluşmadan sanat tarihine geçecek, önemli sanat eserlerinin üretilemeyeceği ileri sürülebilir. Araştırma sonucunda, insanların tarihsel gelişim sürecinde tasarım olgusuyla birlikte uygarlıklarını kurabildiklerini ve tasarımlarını geliştirdikçe, uygarlıklarını da geliştirdikleri ve önemli sanat eserleri üretebildikleri yargısına varılmıştır. İnsanlığın tarihsel gelişimi incelendiğinde, tasarım alanında ister malzemede olsun isterse biçim unsurunda olsun, yeni denemelere girişildiği anda, sanat alanında da önemli eserlerin üretilebildiği söylenebilir. Sonuç olarak, tarihsel süreçte sanat kavramının tasarım sürecinde temellendiği, sanat eseri üretiminin başlangıç noktası olarak tasarım düşüncesinin alınabileceği ve sanat olgusunun tasarlamayla başladığı ileri sürülebilir. The art is defined as the desire to give form. Thus, the relationship between form and content
of an artwork determines the aesthetic. This situation is related to establish a balance of among
the elements in an artwork. In essence, this kind of balance is observed in the design process
mostly. Therefore, some kind of design phenomenon lies at the basis of all the artworks. By
this way, the design like an art, is a creative activity and design elements-principles are used
when creating a design as in the production of the artwork. However, the design also includes
the usefulness and invention. For this reason, the art has occasionally borrowed design solutions
to artistic problems from the design area in the history. The purpose of this study was to
investigate the art fed by the design area, from the perspective of historical development and to
determine the design’s role in the formation of the art concept. Hence, the research question
was decided as follows: "What is the role of the design area in the formation of the art concept
in the process of historical development?" This study conducted in the qualitative method
through descriptive scanning technique. Present study revived related literature by the
keywords as the art and the design. The documents directly related to the research question
examined by using document analysis technique. The findings indicated that the design since
the early times of human history until the Ancient Rome era is a process that reveals the new
in terms of the usefulness. On the other hand, this study revealed that art has a similar
development process as the design as the one of the methods of expressing of human feelings
and thoughts. Accordingly, considering that artwork is same as a design product, it can be said
that the history of the art began with the birth of the first design idea in the Paleolithic period,
which is the start of the civilization era. This situation is interesting in terms of showing the
effect of the design on the art history from the Paleolithic period to the Ancient Rome. As a
result, it can be argued that the artworks cannot be produced regarding the art history without
the formation of a design culture in a society. Consequently, this study revealed that the
humanity was able to establish their civilization along the history as improved the design, and
then, the artists were able to produce new artworks as because of attempted new experiments
in the design approach. Therefore, it can be claimed that the design idea is the initial stage of
the production of the artwork, that is, the art begins with designing since the concept of the art
is based on the design process in the history.
