Özet
Background: – Cancer affects individuals’ physical, psychological, and social well-being, highlighting the need for holistic nursing care. Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory (SCDT) provides a framework to guide care in chronic illness. Objective: – The aim is to examine the effects of SCDT-based nursing care on quality of life, self-care agency, and psychological well-being (anxiety, depression, and loneliness) in adult individuals with cancer. Methods: – PubMed, EBSCO, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, TR Dizin, DergiPark, and YÖK Thesis were searched between January 2023 and February 2024 using keywords including “Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory, ” “self-care, ” “self-efficacy, ” “depression, ” “anxiety, ” “cancer, ” “radiotherapy, ” and “chemotherapy, ” and the included studies spanned 1999–2023. Study quality and data synthesis were conducted using Joanna Briggs Institute checklists and RevMan 5.4.1. The review followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023431448). Results: – Eleven studies with 766 participants were included. SCDT-based care significantly improved quality of life (P = .002), self-care agency (P < .0001), trait/general anxiety (P < .0001/P = .004), depression (P < .0001), and loneliness (P < .0001), whereas state anxiety was not significantly affected (P = .08). Limited study number and heterogeneity may restrict generalizability. Conclusion: – SCDT-based nursing care positively affects the quality of life, self-care agency, and psychological well-being of adult individuals with cancer. Implications for Oncology Nursing Practice: – Theory-driven nursing supports individualized, structured, and evidence-based oncology care.
