Özet

This study examines the relationship between school readiness levels and self-regulation (SR) skills among first-grade primary school students. The study group consisted of 250 first-grade students (5.5–6 years old) selected from five primary schools in İstanbul, Türkiye. Data were collected using the School Readiness Assessment Tool and the SR Skills Scale. Correlation analysis and generalized linear modeling (GLM) were used to analyze the data. The findings indicated a significant positive correlation between school readiness and SR. In the GLM analysis, attention flexibility and working memory were positively correlated with school readiness, whereas inhibitory control was negatively correlated. The SR components, when considered together, accounted for approximately 11% of the variance in school readiness, with all three components demonstrating small effect sizes. These findings underscore the importance of supporting children's self-regulatory skills alongside academic development during the transition to primary school.
