Özet
Medial patellar luxation is one of the most common problems encountered in the knee joint of dogs. Small and miniature breeds are affected by these lesions approximately 10-fold more than large breeds. The study material consisted of 24 knee joints of 24 dogs that were brought to the clinic with complaints of lameness and not being able to use the hind extremity and were then diagnosed with 2nd or 3rd degree medial patellar luxation because of clinical and radiological examinations. After the routine clinical and radiological examinations, lameness and pain in the knee joint based on the Illinois Scale were evaluated by two clinicians preoperatively and on postoperative days 10, 30, 60, and 90. The long-term radiological results of the technique of using the fascia lata as anti-rotational suture material were evaluated on skyline, bilateral pelvis, and anteroposterior radiographs taken preoperatively and on postoperative days 10, 30, 60, and 90. On postoperative day 90, case no. 15 was determined to have a slight limp, could not fully bear weight on the extremity and had findings of mild pain on palpation. No clinical abnormal findings or complications were determined in any of the other cases. In conclusion, the use of fascia lata as anti-rotational suture material can be considered as an alternative to other treatment options in the treatment of cases with 2nd and 3rd degree patellar luxation.
