Özet
The maritime industry is faced with the problem of corrosion due to the constant exposure of the metal structures of ships to salt water and harsh environmental conditions. The high electrical conductivity of salt water accelerates the deterioration of metals through electrochemical reactions, which leads to both economic losses and environmental risks. Corrosion in ships, platforms, underwater structures and port facilities not only increases maintenance costs, but also endangers structural integrity and jeopardizes operational safety. Therefore, the implementation of effective protection methods against corrosion is of great importance in the maritime industry. In corrosion protection, surface-active substances (surfactants) play an important role in preventing corrosion by forming protective films on the surfaces of metals. Since these substances have both hydrophilic and hydrophobic structures, they bind to metal surfaces and form a barrier, preventing the metal from coming into contact with environmental chemicals. Surfactants extend the life of metal structures by reducing the corrosion rate and reduce the frequency of maintenance. In addition, these substances provide more sustainable protection by increasing the effectiveness of corrosion-protection systems such as paints, coatings and inhibitors used in the maritime industry. This chapter aims to examine and analyze in detail how surfactants provide protection against corrosion in the marine industry, including their application methods and effects.
