Incidental Finding of Compound Odontoma on Routine Radiography: A Case Report

NCIDENTALLY DETECTED COMPOUND ODONTOMA ON ROUTINE RADIOGRAPH: A CASE REPORT Baran Coşkun, Çağrı Kaplan Sivas Cumhuriyet University , Faculty of Dentistry , Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Sivas Aim: Compound odontomas are benign odontogenic tumors that are usually asymptomatic and diagnosed radiographically. This report aims to present the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of a compound odontoma incidentally detected on a routine panoramic radiograph. Case Presentation: A 14-year-old female patient with no systemic conditions or complaints attended a routine dental check-up. Panoramic radiography revealed multiple small radiopaque structures on the lingual side of the right mandibular premolar region. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was used for detailed assessment, clearly delineating the lesion. A lingual flap was elevated in the region of teeth 44–45, and the lesion was completely enucleated. The postoperative course was uneventful, and complete healing was observed at the 3-month follow-up. Result: Compound odontomas often present during adolescence and are frequently diagnosed incidentally due to their asymptomatic nature. Routine radiographic imaging plays a crucial role in early detection. Surgical enucleation is typically sufficient, with a favorable prognosis. In this case, the lesion was asymptomatic, incidentally discovered, and successfully managed with surgical intervention.This case emphasizes the importance of routine radiographic evaluations for the early detection of asymptomatic lesions such as compound odontomas.
