The corrosion behavior of copper in 1 M HCl in the absence and presence of Hha ((E)-2-hydroxy-5-(2-benzylidene) aminobenzoic acid) has been investigated experimentally and computationally. In this way, the electrochemical behavior of copper was studied in 1 M HCl and 1 M HCl + x M Hha solutions under different temperatures. Electrochemical techniques were used. In addition to the laboratory methods, computational chemistry was also used to confirm the corrosion protection ability of the inhibitor. In this way, relationship between Hha and copper ions was investigated by computational chemistry methods via B3LYP/6-31G(d) level in detail. The optimum concentration of the studied inhibitors showing the best corrosion inhibition at different temperatures. The inhibition efficiency increases with increase in concentration of Hha. Scanning electron microscopy observations of the copper surface confirmed the existence of an adsorbed film. Quantum calculations also were showed a good tendency for this inhibitor to metal ions. This study demonstrates that the application of Hha will significantly reduce the corrosion rate of copper.
