In this study, general
information about the assembly line and research on assembly line balancing
were examined theoretically. Then, time studies to be examined in assembly line
balancing were conducted regarding the production of a company in the furniture
industry on the Kitchen assembly line, and the necessary information for
assembly line balancing was obtained. In parallel with the data obtained, the
assembly line was first balanced with the Position Weighting method, which is
one of the intuitive methods for the current situation. Then, for the proposed
assembly line, the assembly line was rebalanced using the Position Weighting method
and the results of two different assembly line balancing solutions were given.
At the end of the study, the actual number of workstations of the line
decreased from 11 to 10, and a slight increase was observed in the flow time of
the line. As a result of the balancing, the efficiency of the line increased by
approximately 7.47% with the new situation. There has been a significant
reduction in idle time at the station. This decrease was approximately 63.54
seconds. There was also a decrease in the amount of balance loss of the line
and this rate was calculated as approximately 7.47%. The number of processes in
the line decreased from 12 to 11, and there was no change in the minimum number
of workstations. The aim of the study is to reduce the number of processes on
the assembly line, to create an assembly line with the highest line efficiency
by using the optimum number of operators, and to emphasize the applicability of
the Position Weighting method to assembly lines in the furniture industry.
