Özet

It is seen that bee products are frequently used with their therapeutic qualities in folk medicine as a

natural medicine in many parts of the world [1]. It has been demonstrated that natural bee products like honey,

pollen, propolis etc. and their isolates have wide spectrum of biological activities such as antimycotic,

antioxidant, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, anti-ulcer and immunomodulatory activities and

cardioprotective properties [2-5]. Today, the use of bee products in medical applications, their use as a food

supplement in food and beverage substances, and their use as a source of antioxidant and antiaging in the

cosmetic industries are becoming extremely common. Studies in the literature have shown that there are

significant differences between the contents and biological activities of bee pollen from different botanical

origins and different regions [6-7]. Sivas province is a city with high potential in terms of beekeeping. At the

same time, Sivas province has a very convenient structure for beekeeping activities in terms of natural plant

diversity and land structure. However, scientific studies on bee products of Sivas province are very limited. In

this study, it was aimed to determine and compare the antiproliferative activity of bee pollen samples collected

from central, Yıldızeli and Zara districts of Sivas province in SK-OV-3 (Human ovarian cancer) cell line. Pollen

samples were obtained from beekeepers in the 2020 harvest period, and extractions were carried out in the

laboratory using ethyl alcohol and water solvents. Antiproliferative activities of isolates were investigated in

SK-OV-3 cell line using XTT cell proliferation kit. XTT results were determined spectrophotometrically and

IC50 values were calculated with the help of numerical data obtained by Graphpad analysis program. It was

observed that both ethyl alcohol and water isolates of pollen samples showed good antiproliferative activity in

SK-OV-3 cell line (IC50 < 100 μg/mL). It is the first time to test the efficacy of pollen samples on the SKOV-

3 cell line. It is thought that this study will be a beginning in terms of the therapeutic use of bee pollen samples

from Sivas province and the preparation of new effective supplements.
