The widespread adoption of advanced technologies and smart devices has transformed individuals' daily habits while also influencing the perioperative experiences of surgical patients. During the postoperative period, increased screen exposure resulting from pain, immobility, and boredom may disrupt circadian rhythms, increase anxiety levels, and impair sleep quality. These changes may activate the neuroendocrine stress response, potentially delaying wound healing and adversely affecting overall postoperative recovery. The concepts of Digital Detox and Digital Minimalism have been predominantly explored in the fields of education and behavioral sciences, whereas their implications for surgical care and nursing remain insufficiently investigated. Given that digital technologies have become an integral part of everyday life, there is a growing need to examine the effects of uncontrolled technology use on postoperative recovery outcomes from a nursing perspective. This traditional review aims to evaluate the effects of digital technology use on postoperative recovery outcomes in surgical patients based on the current body of evidence and to provide evidence-informed perspectives on the potential contributions of Digital Detox and Digital Minimalism approaches, implemented under nurse leadership, to postoperative care. It is anticipated that nurse-led educational interventions focusing on digital awareness, technology use regulation, and sleep hygiene may enhance the quality of postoperative recovery. Overall, this review is expected to provide a theoretical framework for the development of innovative and holistic nursing approaches in postoperative care while contributing to increased awareness in this emerging field.
