Özet:
Obesity occurs if the energy taken by foods is more
than burned energy and later on body stores surplus energy as body fat. In
recent years, obesity has become one of the most important healt problems in
the world and affects more people. It is a common view that obesity influence
the life quality and life time negatively.
One of the factors related to obesity is leptin, which
is an adipokin and secreted by adipose tissue.
Anomalies in
leptin such as leptin deficiency, leptin receptor deficiency and leptin
resistance cause obesity. In determining sera leptin level, body mass index
(BMI), amount of body fat and gender type are the most important parameters.
In the present study, blood samples were collected
from Cumhuriyet University's healthy male students (n = 97, age range =18-25)
and female students (n=104, age range= 18-25). For these groups, leptin levels
were determined with Eliza method and analyzed statistically. After these
analyses, relationship between leptin levels and Body Mass Index (BMI), doing
sport regularly, smoking, daily sleep time, and blood glucose value and with
gender in healthy individuals were evaluated.
As a result in this study, it was determined that individuals
who are doing sport regularly have lower sera leptin levels than individuals
who is not doing sport regularly and statistical discrepancy is important.
In this study, it was determined that individuals who
are smoking have lower sera leptin levels than individuals who are not smoking
and statistical discrepancy is important.
In this study, it was determined that female
individuals have higher leptin level than male individuals and statistical
discrepancy is important.
